Snoop Hog’s Sticky School Run – With Extra Everything
What actually happens
One Monday morning, Snoop is running late. This is not unusual. What is unusual is the sheer volume of things that end up attached to him before he gets anywhere near a classroom.
A sock. A dock leaf. A puddle. Several spider webs. And, at one point, an entire dandelion clock’s worth of fluff, which turns him into what can only be described as a walking snowball with legs.
He does not enjoy this. He has a bit of a cry about it, actually, and honestly, fair enough.
Why children ask for it again
Because it’s funny. Properly funny, not “funny for a grown-up pretending” funny. Children aged three to six understand exactly what it’s like to have a morning where absolutely everything goes wrong, and they recognise a kindred spirit in a hedgehog who simply cannot help himself.
There’s no hidden lesson. No agenda. No quiet moral about being tidier or more organised. Just a small hedgehog having an extremely bad morning, and a teacher called Mr Nutley who knows exactly how to turn a disaster into a laugh.
What’s inside
- 44 pages of hand-painted watercolour illustration, every single one done by me, usually fuelled by tea and blind optimism
- A story written to be read aloud, with proper sound effects (FLUMP… SPROING!) and a hedgehog who says “Oh, Crivens!” when things go wrong, which is often
- A deliberate mistake hidden somewhere in the text, and a hidden character tucked into the illustrations, spot either one and there’s a free colouring book in it for you (details at the back of the book)
- A hedgehog who makes a mess of everything, every single day, and thinks it’s brilliant
Because it is.
